Rock dust is:
Rock dust is fine particles of rock or stone. Many varieties of stone have been
tested and have proven to produce amazing results as soil and plant enhancers.
The stone is crushed until the particles are very small.
These particle are measured by grades of a seave. A seave is like the screen on
your windows but come in verious sizes. Seave sizes are determined by the number
of openings per square inch. The size of grain of material that will pass through
a particular seave determines its rating.
Different size rock dust has different life spans of effectiveness to the plants that
are nourished by it. Smaller particles disolve quicker than larger ones but are very effective.
Larger particles of rock dust disolve the outer layer through time while enhancing the plant for a longer time period.
The most important factor in rock dust is the degree of fineness of the
rock dust. The finer the rock dust is, the more easily soil bacteria
decomposes the dust particles and releases the trace elements contained
with them, putting the trace elements into a form which the plant roots
can absorb. This rock dust is formed from Limestone quarried in Southern Indiana USA.
the major use for limestone is building panels because of its endless wear
factor.Crushed stone for road beds are from limestone. The Empire State
building is covered with limestone from Indiana Rather than
talking seave sizes,we will provide you with material that are more familiar to
you for a comparison. One choice of rock dust is equal to the consistency of baking
flour. Each grain of rock dust is about the same size. The second choice is a blend
of various sizes, beginning with a comparison of baking flour and extending to the
size of a BB, or about one eight of an inch across.
Care has been taken to choose a particle grade size small enough to produce
excellent results without being so small that the dust becomes easily airborne.
Powdery dust could result in some loss in the air and unnecessary cleanup. kings PD

The stone is quarried from the ground. Then cut into chunks sometimes as large as a
school bus, sometimes smaller. The large stones are for building panels while
the smaller one are selected and graded for size and hardness. Some stones are
then run through a crusher and makes little rocks out of big ones. As these stones
are shattered into smaller pieces, tiny particles are broken away also. The stones
are run through a screening process. Each screen gets smaller until the holes
in the screening procees is smaller than the holes in a modern screen door. The
smallest particle are used for aglime. The Rock Dust you will be purchasing in

In your garden and flower beds, it is recommended to apply approximately five (5) pounds
of rock dusp per square yard of soil surface. When using rock dust in flower pots,
a six (6) inch flower pot will need about one ounce of rock dust.
< My very own personal experience! In 1994 we built a new house. I had heard stories about the benefits of rock dust but seriously questioned their authenticity. A friend had shared his experience of success with me, so I experimented. During excavation for the new home, I intentionally left one area bare of top soil for a garden spot. All that was in this area was yellow clay. Solid clay. I applied rock dust from a stone mill at the rate of one hundred ton per acre in the fall and tilled it in. Much to my surprise, the soil looked very dark in the spring and grew a very nice crop of vegatables. That was twelve years ago and it is still producing. This barren clay was revitalized in only one winter and I was amazed. Yes the application was quite intense but the results were also.
